AUSTRALIA

Unlike what most people might think; the first feature length film ever, was made in Australia.

The movie The Story of the Kelly Gang tells the story of the legendary Australian bushranger, Ned Kelly (1855-1880). It was 70 minutes long, which was unprecedented when it was released in 1906. Not only recent blockbusters were shot in Australia, but the very roots of movies lie here.

Australia has not only brought forth great actors and actresses, but also has a great movie history. Since the late 1800’s until today, award winning movies as Picnic at Hanging Rock, Sunday Too Far Away and Mad Max were filmed and produced Down Under.

But also big American films like The Matrix and Star Wars I, II and III were filmed and/or staged in Australia. During both our trips in 2006 and 2008, we came across numerous movie set locations.

Because of the magnitude of the country, and the big number of locations, we made movie walks per city and/or region.

Select a city and find out about its most famous filming locations.
